UniSA Learn to Surf Camp 2017

Experience Uni Life Beyond the Classroom!

uijy By Muhammad Reefath,

Hello everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your uni break!

I have some cool news for you to make this the perfect uni holiday for you. UniSA Surfing Team is offering the chance to try out surfing in the Australian summer and meet other students from UniSA at the same time!

The dates are February 13th– 15th, the perfect time to treat yourself.

I went last year and it was an amazing experience! We all made new friends while we had fun surfing! Some of us didn’t know how to surf properly, but it’s alright not knowing – we had tonnes of fun and it was what we signed up for!

Anyway, the best part was we helped each other learn how to surf. Hint! Hint! We were always near the coast, you know it’s better to be. We had so much fun surfing and exploring the natural beauty of the Australian seas. There were instructors to advise and guide us in the camp and guess what, some of them were professionals! Okay okay….not too professional but almost professional! Ha ha!

4It was also a beautiful day to surf! The sunshine, the cool breeze and the sound of the mighty ocean – what a day it was! It was one of the most memorable uni adventures for all of us.

I would recommend the experience to any student as it includes camping too mate! We all got to know each other while at the same time seeing some of Australia’s most beautiful coastal views, native Australian animals and tasting some of South Australia’s local organic produce on the famous Fleurieu Peninsula!

So why not join in and do some camping! We are going ‘true-blue’ Aussie style camping with tents at the beautiful Deep Creek conservation park – surrounded by beautiful native blue gum trees, but still within 100 meters of toilets and showers.

Boo! Just kidding! Fear not! There are no ghosts! We set up the fire in the middle, and all sat down around it. We talked about many things in our life and shared some of our stories with each other. When you find beautiful people around you, you just love telling them your story.

Honestly, it was an incredible moment that we all enjoyed. Mostly, some of us were international students, who never had such experience in our life. It was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and adapt to Aussie culture.

When we look back at our photos ten years later, we might probably laugh in our mind and say it was a good uni life. We will never know how our uni life was unless we look back from the future.

10A single trip can change your whole way of thinking about university and it helped me adapt here in Australia. Overall I have attended more than 30 events so far and all I know is that I love being part of my uni. It is my university! It’s a great place to be, and honestly, it is not all about the academic knowledge, there is a lot more to university life – it’s a very loving and caring culture.

Ohh… and on this next trip, there will be a private chef coming for the whole trip! Yeea, it’s the touch of luxury on a student budget.
